Dear Key Learners,
I’ll let you in on a secret: many capable and intelligent people struggle with executive functioning skills. I’ve personally struggled with specific executive functioning skills for much of my life. I was never taught about what executive functioning skills are or how I can hone these abilities. This left me feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and unseen as a student. I have found over the years that many of my clients feel EXACTLY the same way! They are smart and want to do well in school. Many of them simply struggle with executive functioning because they’ve never had the chance to sharpen these skills.
Here’s the good news: executive functioning skills can be taught, practiced, and mastered just like any other skill set! As an adult, I learned all that I could about executive functioning and how to master this skill set. With extensive training, guided practice, and repetition- I strengthened my skills! Some of my weaknesses have become strengths. It has become a passion of mine to help other individuals master these skills in order to boost their confidence and performance at school, work, and at home.
It’s important to remember that being disorganized, late, or scattered are NOT character deficits! Adults often expect students to just know how to do many things such as utilize a planner, keep an organized binder, bring all necessary materials to class, and study for tests effectively. However, little to no time is dedicated to teaching these skills in school. Key Learning Resources (KLR) is here to help! We see you and we understand what it feels like to face these challenges.
